Whanganui a Tara Is run by a local committee who organises a monthly professional learning programme. They also work with national efforts to advocate for early childhood, children and whānau through networks and information sharing. Each year the committee chooses a theme relevant to early childhood education on which to focus. A range of speakers and workshops are organised ensuring there is a mix of practical and theoretical topics. Some past themes have included; Sustainability, Strengthening our Whāriki and Advocacy. Our professional learning series is held at Te Rito Maioha/NZ Childcare Wellington Teaching Base, 191 Thorndon Quay, 6.00pm-7.30pm with light refreshments provided. All people are welcome.

I have had a variety of roles in early childhood education through-out my 30 years of teaching. Most recently I am working at Storypark as a professional learning and development trainer, which brings together my passion for children’s learning, ICT, and supporting teachers. I completed my Masters of Education in 2015 and am now enjoying spending time with my two mokopuna who are the centre of my world!

Over my nearly 50 years in ece, including training I have been a teacher, head teacher, senior teacher, leader of senior teacher team and general manager and have worked primarily in kindergarten but also parttime for six years in childcare. This has provided me with insight of what its like to be both a practitioner and manager. I have loved supporting young children and teacher to reach their full potential and hope to continue to do this for some time yet. I am currently General Manager Professional Services Hutt City Kindergartens
